U Sunok (1958–2023) was an artist who carved out a distinctive place for conceptual art within Korean contemporary art. After studying at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, she developed a unique artistic language at the intersection of art and life, delicately reflecting on the relationship between the visible and the invisible, presence and absence. In memory of the artist, who passed away in 2023, Sungkok Art Museum presents a retrospective spanning from her early works of the 1980s to the major works created shortly before her death. The exhibition traces the intellectual and artistic journey of a remarkable artist while reconsidering the significance of her enduring contribution to Korean contemporary art. It also offers an opportunity to reflect on the questions her work continues to raise and the resonance it holds for us today.
