Best Art Museums in Seoul
The right museum depends on which district you want to spend the day in.
Seoul’s art scene is split across distinct neighborhoods, so a vague museum plan means too much time on the subway. The better move is to decide whether you want a flagship private-collection day in Hannam-dong, a palace-district museum-and-gallery day in Samcheong-dong, or a focused downtown visit, then build the route around it.
If you want to compare current programming first, start with current Seoul exhibitions and the Seoul venue directory.
A note on the big public institutions: the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) and the Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA) are essential stops, though they are not yet in the Arting venue directory; check their own sites for current shows.

Use it well: treat it as a half-day anchor, then walk into Hannam-dong’s galleries.
Art Sonje Center
In the Samcheong-dong palace district, Art Sonje is one of the most consistent contemporary kunsthalles in the city.
Best for: contemporary work, Samcheong-dong gallery days, a manageable visit.

If You Want University and Civic Museums
- Seoul National University Museum of Art (MoA) — A Rem Koolhaas-designed campus museum.
- SOMA Museum of Art — Beside the Olympic Park sculpture grounds.
- Savina Museum of Contemporary Art — Contemporary programming in Eunpyeong.
- LOTTE Museum of Art — Blockbuster exhibitions inside LOTTE World Tower in Jamsil.
These are better for repeat visitors than first-timers, but they make for stronger days once you already know the obvious museums.
