About

Discover Echoes of the Tides by Yo-E Ryou in the music box of the Collections Plateau. This work unfolds through sound, breath, and duration, exploring the spaces of encounter and resonance between bodies, water, and memory. Living on Jeju Island in South Korea, the artist sought out the knowledge of the Haenyeo, a community of female divers. Without seeking to reproduce what can be seen on the surface, the winner of the 2025 sound residency, Yo-E Ryou, focuses on what happens beneath the surface, through waiting, resting, breathing, and returning. This knowledge is transmitted without any written form, to the rhythm of the tides, gestures of affection, and shared work and rest. Rather than offering a figurative representation of their practices, her installation invites another form of attention: a perception of what is felt before it is visible, and known by the body before it is named. Here, breath is not just a sound, but a form of relationship. A way of being with others, human and “non-human,” over time. You are invited to enter, sit down, and listen at your own pace. There is no beginning and no end; only the slow unfolding of presence.
