About

Bonfils' creative vision is significantly influenced by maintaining two studios in the diverse landscapes of coastal Connecticut and the striking contrasts of New Mexico. The dynamic interplay of shifting skies, vibrant sunsets, and the rich cultural histories of these regions informs her work, allowing her to create pieces that resonate with beauty and a deep sense of place. Her underwater photography, particularly the "Submerged Garden Series," Bonfils emphasizes biological systems and the experiences of submerged aquatic life. Her solo exhibition at Gerald Peters Contemporary, The Art of Connection, serves as a multi-sensory experience designed to remind audiences of their place within a universal ecosystem. Through her choice of materials, metals, beeswax, resin, silk, sounds of nature and reclaimed objects, she reflects a dedication to sustainable practices, emphasizing that humanity is not merely adjacent to nature but is an integral part of it. With a Master's degree in clinical social work earned in 1985, Bonfils merges her curiosity about community with her passion for nature. Her love for outdoor adventure drives her experimentation with diverse materials and tools, yielding intense, ethereal visions marked by a reverence for the Earth. Encouraging tactile engagement, she invites viewers to interact with her textured encaustics or hand held bronze sculptures fostering a deep appreciation for the human experience and life's complexities. Bonfils' work tackles significant social and environmental issues, from climate change to the dynamics of shelter and identity. Concepts such as "climate refugees" and "trash to treasure" are prominent, prompting self-reflection and igniting conversations about the interconnectedness of existence. Her pieces, featured in museums, and collections worldwide, including The 1 Hotel and Tiffany & Co. UK, are a testament to her ability to evoke emotion and inspire dialogue.
