About

Ivan Bridges (b. 1984, Portland, OR) presents a body of work that explores the psychological resonance of concealed memories. Working in watercolor and oil on paper and raw canvas, he draws on found imagery from cult cinema, fetish culture, and vintage photography, translating internal drives into expressive, often minimal gestures. Through loose, delicate strokes and a disciplined economy of marks, Bridges addresses themes of desire, fear, and control. Reflecting on his practice, he notes, "I really identify with Duchamp when he says that all of art making is an urge… I see it fundamentally as an obsessive urge, something I've never been able to quit, so it seems to put it in its place as urge." While Rachel Bridges and Ivan Bridges share a life partnership, their artistic practices remain distinct. Their simultaneous presentations at LAMAG underscore the individuality of their respective bodies of work while offering audiences an opportunity to encounter two independent voices within a shared institutional moment.
