The Gallery by SOIL - "A Shared Life in Time"

To share a life is to share time: its quiet repetitions, patient layering, and unseen transformations. For Hanako GEJO and Takeshi IGAWA, husband and wife, urushi (natural lacquer in Japanese) is both medium and mirror — a practice shaped by devotion, discipline, and the slow accumulation of days. With urushi, each layer must wait for the next. Depth is built through patience; brilliance emerges through restraint. Likewise, their artistic lives unfold in parallel — distinct yet resonant, independent yet intimately connected. Through surface, form, and touch, this exhibition traces two artists who have lived alongside one another, pursuing the same ancient material with separate hands and a shared spirit. Through their three dimensional works on view, "A Shared Life in Time" presents urushi as both craft and record — of endurance, intimacy, and time itself.
