The Art of Chinese Seal Carving — From Tradition to Creation

Using the knife as a brush, step into the world of Chinese seal carving. Beginning with its historical development and representative works, this course introduces participants to the unique value of the seal as a cultural medium, and guides you through the basic process of stone selection, inscription, carving, and printing. Through copying and creative practice, participants will build a foundation in knife techniques, calligraphy, and composition, gradually understanding how seal engraving has evolved from a traditional craft into a form of contemporary artistic expression, while developing their own creative language. The workshop is led by artist Pau Mo-ching. She studied Chinese painting at the China Academy of Art and later obtained both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She currently teaches seal carving at universities and arts institutions, while continuing her artistic practice. Her works have been selected for the Hong Kong Art Biennial. Places are limited.
