Aletheia

Shredding is a routine ritual meant to erase and protect. Grounded in over a decade of social service experience, my practice routinely intersects with A4 documents laden with sensitive personal data. Once shredded, these ordinary sheets transform into quiet vessels of privacy, secrets, and fragmented history. The paper itself is weightless, yet the human weight it carries is immensely heavy. This series engages philosopher Martin Heidegger's concept of aletheia (truth as unconcealment)—transforming the process of destruction and cutting into a "clearing" (Lichtung). By reconstructing shredded remnants, I carve out an open space within a closed system, allowing buried traces to emerge. Through the act of tearing and reshaping, physical waste ceases to be a mere heavy burden, becoming a quiet reflection on privacy, identity, and shared memory.
