Serakai Studio has commissioned _Memory & Punishment_, a new sound installation and durational performance by the artist and musician Janice Laujan, the lead vocalist of the noise band DAVID BORING, for GOLD, its Hong Kong salon. _Memory & Punishment_ emerges from a simple observation: there are remarkably few spaces in contemporary life that offer a place where challenging recollections may simply be inhabited rather than summarily resolved. Bearing semblance to a garden, _Memory & Punishment_ is caught in the process of metamorphosis between what is natural and alien. Droning sounds and an undulating purple floor fill the space, while bodies fitted with contact mics traverse it, feeding into its acoustic ecology. Conceived as a social environment beyond home and work, the installation invites the visitor to linger, listen, and eventually be engulfed.
