About
Discover the fusion of art, technology and international trade that pushed the boundaries of enamel decoration in China from the 1600s. From bowls and bottles to teapots and tableware, take a closer look at intricately detailed, technically innovative and visually striking enamelled art objects and find out how this skilled artform was elevated to new heights. An Enamel Revolution explores the ways Chinese workshops developed new techniques for enamelling objects made of porcelain and glass, as well as copper. See how craftspeople refined their skills, experimenting with colour and material to dazzling effect, and how Chinese products were adapted for export to Europe. Jointly organised by the Art Museum, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the Fitzwilliam Museum, with generous support from the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. We would also like to thank the Fitzwilliam's Marlay Group Patrons for their support of this display and E & R Foundation Limited for its contribution to the associated Learning and Public Programmes.
