About

SFMOMA brings media artist Jennifer Steinkamp's digital artwork _It's a nice day for a white wedding._ (2008) to San Francisco's Market Street as part of [Yerba Buena Illuminated](https://yerbabuena.org/art/yerba-buena-illuminated). This program by Yerba Buena Partnership presents open-air projections within Yerba Buena neighborhood to activate the public realm and bring large-scale artworks to one of the city's most active and visible corridors. Exhibited outdoors and at a monumental scale for the first time, this SFMOMA collection work by Steinkamp will be projected onto the Humboldt Bank Building's iconic Beaux-Arts–style façade. The artwork's title is inspired by Billy Idol's 1982 hit song _White Wedding_ but in contrast to the lyrics' darker undertones, this installation brings a cascade of red, white, and yellow wedding flowers to life. Known for her colorful and texturally rich imagery, the Los Angeles–based artist has been using computer animation to render organic and abstract forms from nature in motion since the 1980s. Steinkamp experiments with the illusion of light in her installations to alter the viewer's typical perspective of an object within its physical environment, inviting an immersive experience of space and time. _Visitors can experience this special off-site presentation daily from twilight to 10 p.m. at the intersection of Market Street and Yerba Buena Lane._
