First Impressions

Richmond Art Center founder Hazel Salmi recorded that the center's first student exhibition took place in 1937, noting that "much was learned" by the students from the experience. This commitment to encouraging students to share their work continues to be a part of Richmond Art Center's approach to arts education today. _First Impressions_ celebrates the ongoing tradition of student exhibitions, highlighting work from our printmaking studio. The exhibition features relief, screen, woodblock, monotype, and cyanotype prints, including artist proofs. Some works are finished and signed, while many are unsigned and offer an impression of the process itself. Here, the emphasis is not on perfection, but on creative exploration and the courage to learn through making.
