About
Celebrate four decades of the Ikenobo Ikebana Society New York City Chapter with a special exhibition in The Noguchi Museum's Education Studio (Level C). Visitors are invited to experience flowers as sculptural expressions of time, place, and attentive seeing. Founded more than 550 years ago in Kyoto, Ikenobo is the oldest and most enduring school of ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement. Rooted in close observation of nature, ikebana explores the expressive relationship between plants, space, season, and the human spirit. Bringing together the living art of Ikenobo ikebana and the sculpture of Isamu Noguchi, this exhibition explores how nature, form, and emptiness give meaning to one another. Like Noguchi's work, ikebana invites us to experience balance and tension, movement and stillness, as essential elements of composition. This commemorative exhibition brings together tradition, artistry, and cultural exchange through approximately 45 floral arrangements created by distinguished masters and members of the Ikenobo Ikebana Society New York City Chapter.
