About
Marian Goodman Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by Julie Mehretu titled Our Days, Like a Shadow (a non abiding hauntology) which will include new and distinct bodies of work from 2024-2026. Both canvas paintings by Julie Mehretu and TRANSpaintings by Mehretu and Nairy Baghramian will be exhibited. The TRANSpaintings , which resulted from an ongoing dialogue between the artists, comprise aluminum works titled Upright Brackets by Baghramian, which form a sculptural embrace of the semi-transparent polyester-mesh matrixes painted by Mehretu. The exhibition will feature a series of live performances under the direction of choreographer John Jasperse Projects who was invited to create a new dance work titled Wandering in response to Mehretu's works. With a building interest in dance, Mehretu invited Jasperse to respond to her work after being introduced to Jasperse's oeuvre by dramaturg/producer Ariel Osterweis (founder of Body Shop Performance Projects). Wandering will be performed twice daily over four consecutive days from 20-23 May.
