About
Harper's is pleased to announce _Bright Lights, Big City_, a group exhibition of twenty-four artists opening at Harper's Bangkok on August 14. The show takes its name from Jay McInerney's iconic 1984 novel, a book that memorialized the freewheeling spirit of an ascendant New York. Like New York in the Eighties, today's Bangkok is an incubator of new opportunity. That energy is palpable throughout the city. Since an expectation of discovery is the hallmark of all group shows, we are delighted to introduce a range of gallery artists and friends to our Bangkok audience. The best urban love affairs all begin with the same feeling: stick around long enough and something great will happen. You may discover a noodle shop on an anonymous side street where the owner's housemade chili, doled out in a plastic spoon, fills your taste buds with an indescribable tang; you might stumble into a hotel at dusk and find a rooftop bar where the city is splayed out below in purple light and the drinks are strong; or you could walk into a gallery hidden in an office building and encounter an artist whose work you're seeing for the first time.
