About
Duckworth Gallery is pleased to present Carbon Life, a three-person exhibition featuring the work of Bettina Magi, Veronika Sheer, and Shura Skaya. The exhibition opens on May 2 with a reception from 6–9 PM and remains on view through June 6, 2026. Carbon Life unfolds as an exploration of temporality—where past, present, and future are not discrete categories but overlapping states of consciousness. Rather than imposing fixed structures, the exhibition considers “carbon life” as something experienced through sensation, intuition, and perception: fluid, chaotic, and resistant to rigid classification. Bettina Magi’s work anchors the exhibition in the past, where memory operates as a living force rather than a distant record. Veronika Sheer’s paintings dwell in the immediacy of lived experience, embracing a state of becoming. Shura Skaya’s work occupies a volatile “future present,” where fragments of language and image emerge intuitively. Throughout the exhibition, time behaves less like a line than a current—at once frozen, flowing, and expansive. Carbon Life invites viewers to move instinctively through the space, mirroring the intuitive processes through which the works themselves emerged.
