The Weight of Grace: New Works by Stan Squirewell

"This body of work is my love letter to the women who built me," states Squirewell. "I grew up surrounded by their hands, braiding, cooking, praying, holding everything together when nothing else would. History rarely gave them credit for that labor, so I wanted to build them a throne instead of a footnote. Every frame in this show is an altar to a matriarch, named or unnamed, real or reimagined."
