About

What if the design and construction of buildings were shaped by local, climate-resilient, mixed-species forest? At a time of climate emergency, architecture practice dRMM and its partners in manufacturing and science consider how wood from UK forests could transform local production. This display presents the pioneering new products that emerged from the research, and demonstrates the potential of this underused resource. dRMM: Building from Forests follows a three-year research project by the New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering (NMITE), Edinburgh Napier University, Built Environment – Smarter Transformation (BE-ST) and EcoSystems Technologies, commissioned by the Forestry Commission England. The display forms part of the fifth iteration of Make Good: Rethinking Material Futures , a ten-year programme supported by John Makepeace OBE.
