About

'Pigeons of Croydon' vibrantly celebrates some of the pigeons commonly seen around Croydon, from the iconic Feral Pigeon to the plump Wood Pigeon. Pigeons were previously held in high esteem; being domesticated, bred as pets and used as invaluable messengers during World War I & II. They were later abandoned by many, and are now frequently despised and treated as pests. This series of illustrations invites us to look again at these overlooked, misunderstood birds, and to appreciate their beauty. From their iridescent feathers and varied patterns, to their small inquisitive beaks.
