About

Harumi Tanaka's new exhibition, Carpe Diem, opens 29th October 2026 at Studio 73, Brixton. Brixton Art Prize was born in 2022 with its inaugural edition at Department Store in Brixton, where 41 shortlisted artists were presented in a landmark celebration of contemporary art practice. We had over 700 artists from all around the world apply for our first Prize, following the theme : Conflict and Integration. Four prizes were awarded on the night. The John Purcell Paper Prize went to Sarrah El-Bushra, Third Prize to Marlowe Campbell, Second Prize to Claudette Forbes, and First Prize to Harumi Tanaka for her work __Self Portrait As A Doll__. We were captivated by the quiet intensity of Harumi's work — containing a snapshot of time, that felt both intimate and urgent, almost like a scream held just beneath the surface. It captured our full attention, not only for what it showed, but for the emotional force behind it. Now, in 2026, and as part of the first prize, we are pleased to be hosting a solo exhibition by Harumi Tanaka. __Carpe Diem__ will open on Thursday 29th October 2026, presenting a new body of work that continues her compelling exploration of form, feeling and psychological presence.
