About
Don’t miss '(Extra)ordinary: Darcey Fleming’s first solo exhibition and winner of the Brookfield Properties Craft Award 2026. The exhibition transforms the reception at 99 Bishopsgate with a series of vibrant, wall‑hung weavings made from discarded baling twine. Uniform in scale yet expressive in form, the works cascade down the walls, creating a rhythmic and immersive visual environment. Fleming’s practice centres on the tension between structure and freedom. Beneath the loose, flowing strands of colour lies a tightly constructed woven core, a balance the artist describes as: “Experimentation within a structure allows me and my work to be free.” Working across sculpture, performance and photography, Fleming reimagines agricultural waste as bold, tactile sculpture. Her work moves fluidly between gallery, landscape and body, resisting easy categorisation. As she explains: “I am reluctant to label myself and my practice. I like that my work travels across industries and locations, crossing the barriers between the arts while simultaneously rejecting them.”
