About

This London debut solo exhibition brings together paintings and mixed-media works exploring how repeated acts of looking shape intimacy, memory, and the perception of domestic space. Centred on a single armchair left by Chen's late grandfather, the works transform an ordinary household object into a site where bodily presence, memory, and acts of looking continue to intersect. The exhibition reflects on the vulnerable condition of being cast into spatial, emotional, and familial structures that we do not choose, yet within which we continue to seek rest and belonging. Through translucent layers of Xuan paper, image transfer, oil paint, collage, and repeated handwriting, figures and domestic objects emerge, recede, and partially dissolve. Suspended between presence and absence, the works move from the desire to preserve what is disappearing towards the recognition of an intimacy that can only be understood in retrospect.
