About
A portrait records the spirit of a person or a place. Spirit is not just one fixed thing, but a rich weaving of meanings. White Deer Lake has many faces. It is still and glassy in the morning, shaded from the hot sun in the afternoon, hazy through the smoke of a campfire. Screen printing is a remarkably fluid way to work. If the color of ink or the line pattern from one print shifts from one assembly to another, the sense of the content can change dramatically. In these assemblies, the image begins with a hand-painted acrylic wash that is overlaid with multiple layers of screen printing.
