Threads of Red

Vose Galleries presents **_Threads of Red_**, showcasing a collection of works that incorporate the primary color in intriguing ways, whether dominating the composition or used judiciously to draw attention to a notable element in a scene. Examples of the former include Karl Schrag's swirling sky in _Autumn Mood in August_, which visually echoes the pervading heat of late summer along the Maine coast, and Gary Milek's _Red Sky_, an homage to the spectacular autumn sunsets of northern Vermont. In contrast, Bernard Lamotte, Walter Farndon and Harry Leith-Ross, among others, applied pure red in their figures' clothing, thereby setting the human element apart from their more neutral surroundings. Even the scantest strokes of crimson, such as the tie in Janet Monafo's _Still Life with Garlic_ and the bills and feathers of Cindy House's birdlife, stimulate the eyes and energize their works.
