About

Z'M Projects is pleased to present _Primary Sources: An Implicated Threshold_, a three-person exhibition by Nate Jackson, Camille Seaberry, and Charlotte Palermo. The exhibition will be on view through October 30, 2026. This exhibition is presented concurrently with _Alex Jackson and Jordan Seaberry: Primary Sources_ at Steven Zevitas Gallery. Across both exhibitions, these artists come together through familial kinship. While _Primary Sources_ develops an architecture of relationship, _Primary Sources: An Implicated Threshold_, questions the limiting construction of established structures. While these frameworks promote legibility and organization, they can also constrain the possibility of imagining new forms, relationships, and understanding. Bringing together found materials, reworked diagrams, and forms drawn from domestic, scientific, and institutional histories, the exhibition pushes against the threshold between what is recognized and what remains outside of fixed systems of perception. In _Optics_ Nate Jackson adds to and modifies the visual language of a found chalkboard and white board. Both components are stacked together to become an eye-level, free-standing object. Scientific diagrams related to the physics of light and how it interacts with matter are paired with instructions on how to use a View-Master and philosophical drawings. A site of calculation and fleeting pondering, Jackson brings these concrete and open languages together in a practice he names "unthought," to identify what is true and also to recognize potentiality in the gesture of the incorrect. Charlotte Palermo's work _Infinity Sock_ is a hand-knitted, double-sided stocking purposefully lacking an opening. While employing an intimate object of everyday life and eliminating its function, Palermo shifts the focus from utilitarian duty to the open and emotional landscape of familial relationship. Defying the attempted structure of parenthood, this work speaks to a parent's humorous, and often futile, attempts at maintaining a home. Camille Seaberry provides a thoughtful zine outlining methods of gardening and mutual aid. Resisting the top-down structure of charity, mutual aid supports a peer-to-peer exchange of resources and services. Community members collaborate to meet shared needs in an attempt to separate solidarity from a system of wealth. The act of gardening develops a practice of care, cultivation, and interdependence that extends beyond the fixed logic of productivity. At its core, _Primary Sources: An Implicated Threshold_ asks what becomes possible when we open the structures that dictate how to organize, understand, and relate to the world. Beyond questions of societal and familial frameworks, the exhibition extends this query to the structures of knowledge itself.
