About

In recent years, the artist collective Kg Augenstern has focused their research on the field of energy and its relationship with ritual and art. In 2024 and 2025, they spent two periods on the Island of Pantelleria, a place characterised by strong electromagnetic fields due to its volcanic activity. “Knocking on Heaven’s Door” was the first cycle of art works from 2024, presented at BOCS in Catania (Italy), curated by N38E13, at the Larnaca Biennale in Cyprus and, in parts, in Zurich, Switzerland, and at Art Figura in Germany. The second series of art works from 2025 is now presented as a mixed-media installation entitled “Out of the Blue”, in Retramp Gallery, Berlin. In “Out of the Blue,” KG Augenstern explores the island (Pantelleria) as a synthesis of the world: a material and immaterial ensemble that reveals and conceals itself, moving between light, twilight, and darkness. Following the traces of the island’s history and memory, KG Augenstern overlays its own intuitions through art and ritual. Their art is at the limits of the visible, suspends the world, and ventures into that walled silence at the threshold of every possibility. In front of the wall, one may move “beyond” by looking toward the sky, through an artifice that also takes the form of a divinatory art, in which a fragment can reveal the color of all things: light. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed. It can only be converted into other forms of energy. Light is just one manifestation of the electromagnetic spectrum.
